A passive infrared sensor (PIR) is an electronic sensor that measures infrared(IR) light radiating from objects in its field view.
Beam detectors comes in a pair of transmitter and receiver. Each transmitter sends four IR beams and is received at the receiver.
When all four beams (Quad Beam AND Technology) are blocked by an intruder, then an alarm is communicated to the control panel.
